Blood Orange
The blood orange is a special type of orange with deep red flesh. This red color is due to the presence of anthocyanin, a type of pigment that is produced only when nighttime temperatures are low. These oranges often have a sweeter and less acidic taste compared to regular oranges and may have a flavor reminiscent of raspberries.
Blood oranges are primarily grown in Mediterranean regions, where the cool nights in autumn and winter are ideal for pigment development. Blood oranges are usually harvested later than other citrus fruits to allow the interior to fully develop its color.
